Rekeczki's design inspiration came from the parent company's logo, which features a drop, a nod to their flagship product, Beres Drops. This drop motif is central to the wine label design, symbolizing the birth of the wine from the fertile Hungarian hills, represented by two arcs. The line pattern on the label, meanwhile, represents vine stocks, tying the design back to the wine's origins.
What sets this design apart is its unique use of the drop shape, which is cut and appears as a continuation of the two arcs. This design element, combined with the use of different colors and metallic stamp foils, helps distinguish between the winery's base and premium wines. The base wines feature more vibrant colors, while the premium wines are more subdued, reflecting their respective characteristics.
The realization of this design involved the use of die-cutting, wine label paper with UV lacquer, and metallic stamp foil, with the print method being offset. The result is a label that is both visually appealing and tactile, enhancing the overall wine-drinking experience.
The design process, which took place in Budapest, Hungary, between October 2014 and August 2015, involved extensive research. Rekeczki scoured well-known websites and visited large Hungarian wine specialty stores to ensure his design was unique. Once he confirmed that no other packaging featured a cut drop shape as a central motif, he began the actual design process.
The Beres Tokaj wine label design has not only revolutionized the way wine labels are perceived but also earned Rekeczki a Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, and that evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
In conclusion, Roland Rekeczki's design for Beres Tokaj is a perfect example of how a thoughtful and well-executed design can elevate a product, in this case, wine, to new heights. It's a testament to the power of design and its ability to tell a story, connect with consumers, and ultimately, sell a product.
